Avatar Korra, a headstrong, rebellious, feisty young woman who continually challenges and breaks with tradition, is on her quest to become a fully realized Avatar. In this story, the Avatar struggles to find balance between tradition and modernity, the bending and non-bending world, and within herself. Korra leaves the safety of her home in the Southern Water Tribe to Republic City, where she begins airbending training with her spiritual mentor, Tenzin. Despite the immense danger of criminal bending gangs as well as members of a vocal anti-bending revolution, led by a masked man named Amon, Korra vows to fight the growing anti-bending revolution.
