I could not understand why this toy was priced so high, other than the marketing corresponds to the Enchanted Forest series running on Nick at the same time.... however,

This isn't just a small, hard plastic doll. This figure comes with many accessories and the wings are mechanical. Dora also says a variety of phrases. I was very surprised and once received, felt much better about the seemingly high price.

This isn't "educational" but it's not really meant to be. It is a nice, durable toy for a little girl who can't get enough of fairy Dora!!

4You have to actually *touch* the wand to the doll's chest  Nov 26, 2011
The bottom of the box says "wave the wand in a downward motion in front of the doll to activate the wings." Well, every adult at thanksgiving this year passed the doll around trying everything we could think of (changing the batteries, exposing the doll to more light, flicking the on-off switch up and down) and no amount of wand-waving got the wings to go. We even took the wand back to the store the next day and tried waving it in front of every doll at Target. Nothing.

So we called Fisher Price and the rep read from their doll information, "TOUCH the wand to the doll's chest." Sure enough, when one stops waving the wand and actually makes contact between the wand and the doll, the magnets click together and the wings unfold with a flourish and a song.

We all felt kind of silly that a bunch of smart adults weren't able to figure this out ourselves, but it would have made much more sense for FP actually print those seven simple words, "touch the wand to the doll's chest" instead of printing the inexplicable "wave the wand in front of the doll." Anyway. Hopefully this review will help other frustrated parents or aunts or uncles or cousins Christmas morning!

Also, bring a knife and a lot of patience to free this doll from the prison of her packaging. She's strapped in like Hannibal Lecter in transit to the federal supermax.

Like other reviewers said, the commercial makes this toy seem wonderful and magical. My 3 year old constantly asked Santa to bring this doll to her. Well, he did. And I wish he would take it back.

We have no problems making Dora sing. It's the wings we have issues with. They don't magically close back into a skirt; you gotta push them back down. The wand needs to be VERY close to the necklace to make them open back up. Here's the main problem. The wings CONSTANTLY slip off their hooky things, which then jams up the opening process. My daughter, who loves her Dora toys, pays absolutely NO attention to this doll because every time it's started up, I have to fix the wings back on.

This Dora Fairy is pretty, but she is merely an oversized figurine taking up space. I would NEVER recommend this toy to anyone. Very disappointing and frustrating.

Product arrived at the estimated time and in good order and condition, child totally enjoyed receiving and playing with it. The product is well made and even though the wings do tend to become dislodged, they are designed to do this rather then break and the child was able to refit them after being shown once.

My daughter really wanted this toy for Christmas...despite the reviews I got it for her. It was broken within 3 days....and my daughter telling me Santa needs to bring her a new toy! The toy and concept is cute, but not durable for young children. Do not waste your money. Your child will be disappointed.
